Gonzaga win Leinster Schools' Chess League

On Saturday April 13th the Leinster Chess League Finals were held in St. Benildus College. Gonzaga had reached the final at Minor, Junior and Senior level - the only school to do so.

The Senior final, although fiercly fought, went to a deserving St Benildus side 4-1. The Minor side suffered a similar fate, losing rather unluckily by 3-2 to St Benildus.
The Gonzaga Junior side overcame a very strong challenge from Castleknock College to win the title. Many of the victors were members of the team that won the Minor title last year and this augurs well for our prospects at Senior level in the future.
The Leinster Junior Chess Champions are (in board order, as shown here facing the camera):
1. Cormac O'Brien (2C)
2. Marc Lincoln (3C) (Captain)
3. Peter Gillen (3B)
4. Tim Wyse (2A)
5. John Flanagan (4A) [Conor Young (3A) (Substitute)]
We wish them the best of luck in the All Ireland Schools' Competition to be held on Saturday 26th in Belfast, where they will be strengenthened by the return of their Captain, John Flanagan.
