Further Chess Successes

Gonzaga continued their tradition of winning under-1200 national tournaments when John Flanagan and Peter Gillen came joint first in the Kilkenny Chess Congress. A Grading Prize also went to Patrick Young in that section.

A very encouraging sign for chess in Gonzaga was the participation of 4 pupils in the 1200-1600 section of the tournament. Michael O'Toole, Cormac O'Brien, Marc Lincoln and Jack Hennessy all qualified to play in the higher section of the tournament. Jack Hennessy followed on from his first place finish in Galway by picking up a Grading Prize in this higher section. Well done to all!
